"Thinking About Leaving"
Performed by Dwight Yoakam
Written by Rodney Crowell and Dwight Yoakam
CD: LAST CHANCE FOR A THOUSAND YEARS
Copyright 1999 Sony/ATV Tunes LLC ASCAP/Coal Dust West Music
administered by Warner-Tamberlane Publishing Corp. BMI

This is a note-for-note transcription of Dwight's beautiful new song from his
latest album. It is a fairly straight forward three chord song recorded in a
dropped D tuning (D,A,D,G,B,E). The guitar solo (included) is in the D major
scale and there are two main riffs which alternate throughout the song. Feel
free to substitute an A7 chord in many of the places where an A occurs.

    D A D (RIFF #1)
I used to think love was the soft rope meant to tie me down
     D A D (RIFF #2)
And all that could ever own me was a guitar and another town
 G D
Ten years can disappear real fast - When every morning just leaves somewhere
       G D A(7)
else behind - But I've been thinking about leaving - Long enough to change
     D (RIFF # 2)
my mind

  D A D (RIFF #1)
Lying here beside you - I can feel it start to pull me away
                  D A(7) D
The thought I'll have again tomorrow - That just came back from yesterday
     G D G
But your embrace makes any reason - For those memories hard to find
             D A(7) D (RIFF #1)
I've been thinking about leaving - Long enough to change my mind

    G D
Sometimes I miss the warm, bright lights - Sometimes I miss the crowds
    G D A
Sometimes I miss the woman - I wrapped each song around
    G D G
Sometimes I miss that world out there - So empty, hard and unkind
                 D A(7) D (RIFF #2)
But I've been thinking about leaving - long enough to change my mind
