intro: A D A G D x2

Verse:
A (D)* A
Said goodbye to his momma as he left south dakota
G D
to fight fot the red white and blue

A (D)* A
He was nineteen in green with a new M-16
G D
Just doing what he had to do

A (D)* A
He was dropped in the jungle where the choppers would rumble
G D
With the smell of napalm in the air

A
And the seargent said
G D
Look up ahead

A (D)* A
Like a dark evil cloud twelve hundred came down
G D
On him and twenty-nine more

A (D)* A
They fought for their lives but most of them died
G D
In the 173rd airborne

Chorus:
A (D)* A
On the 8th of November the angels were crying
G D
As they carried his brothers away

A (D)* A
With the fire raining down and the hell all around
G D
There were few men left standing that day

F G
Saw an eagle fly through a clear blue sky
F G
Nineteen-sixty-five
 NC A (D)* A G D
the 8th of November

A (D)* A
Now he's fifty-eight and his pony tail's gray
G D
But the battle still plays in his head

A (D)* A
He limps when he walks but he's strong when he talks
G D
About the shrapnell they left in his leg

A (D)* A
He puts on a suit over his airborne tatoo
G D
He ties it on one time a year

A (D)* A
He remembers the fallen as he orders a tall one
G D
And swallows it down with his tears

Chorus:
A (D)* A
On the 8th of November the angels were crying
G D

* You don't need to play this D, but Big Kenny plays it live. I think it sounds good,
it makes it so you are not holding A out so long. Its a good song, don't be afraid to let
ring for a little, i.e. only strum F once until the G on "saw the eagle fly", it sounds best.
